To OD or not to OD, that is the question

hi

I am a seasoned software developer with 14 years of experience. I work at Microsoft in Seattle (and love it).

I have always been very intersted in raising people's productivity. I have been involved in creating training curriculums & programs to motivate people to work!

So now the question is: should I go get an OD (Organizational Development) degree and start my career from scratch?

Would I be starting from scratch? or will my 14 years of IT industry experience help me start above fresh graduates?

If I get this degree, will it help me in my current role and move up into management or is it a complete switch? I know there's management and leadership elements in this program (the OSR program at SU).

also, should I just go for a straight MBA in management?

I'd like to hear from anyone, especially those who swicthed careers, and it didnt or did work for.

100% MBA. This will leverage what you've already learned in your career and give you a broad scope (at the masters level) of business administration.

It's a grind and requires 110% committment, but it's worth it.

The costs are considerable as well, I think that Microsoft would provide financial support.

I agree, an MBA with a focus on OD will give you OD skills and business acumen. Coupled with your IT background, you will be able to help organizatios who have a wide variety of needs.
