Help! I've been tasked with creating a training matrix based on the needs analysis that was done. My predecesor broke the training down based on years with the company which I don't feel is the right approach for us. We are an engineering company and the training needs to happen based on what role they are in, not how long they've been here. I have some ideas but am not sure how to get it to show what I picture in my mind. Is anyone willing to share some examples with me? Thank you in advance.

I have seen people use "cubes" to illustrate their systems. In other words, they have the core elements on a flat matrix grid and then they build on top of that. So there is a "z" axis along with the x and y. It seems like your z axis could be the various roles you describe. The x and y could be things like competencies and time lines, or it could be organizational goals and the gaps identified in the needs assessment.

I would start by using the existing matrix as a template, I think it's easier to present a new model to your stakeholders if it looks similar to the old one.

That is very nice post deltac. Moreover, I completely agree with you!

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
