Though Todd raises some good points about "diversity" diluting the very things it is celebrating, I could not disagree more about his disgust about the "winter holiday". Christmas was not even a chris

Though Todd raises some good points about "diversity" diluting the very things it is celebrating, I could not disagree more about his disgust about the "winter holiday". Christmas was not even a christian holiday in the beginning; it was arbitrarily assigned by the church in an attempt to hijack the pagan winter solstice.
Though over the years christmas has managed to settle down into a strong christian tradition, the winter season is not just christmas. Many spiritualists celebrate the winter solstice for their own reasons. It is a symbol of endings and beginnings, life and death, and the cycle of nature.
The "christmas tree" is not even a christian symbol; it is a pagan one. The very idea of the celebration of nature is loaded with non-christian ideals.
I posit that the end of one year and beginning of the next holds a special significance for everyone, regardless of their religion or lack thereof. Wishing a "merry christmas" to christians is all fine and well, but most of the rest of us are quite pleased with "happy winter" or its variants. Personally, I will accept either one and reply with, "and a happy winter to you."

{Do what your name says...pull the shade and go to sleep!}
You obviously have a disagreement with me; fine. I can easily accept rational disagreement. But responding to a short essay with nothing more than a mindless kindergarten-style insult is the mark of an immature mind. I know you are capable of better than: "Do what your name says...pull the shade and go to sleep!" The email you sent me makes that clear.
If you care for a rational discussion on the issue, great. But kindly don't waste my time with garbage like: "Do what your name says...pull the shade and go to sleep!"

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?
Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
