Todd - you're right on the money with this column. Not only would a minimum wage increase provide businesses with such tangibles as tax breaks and wage-and-hour relief, but there are less tangible outcomes that will be a boon to any size business:
Examples: 1. some miniumum wage workers will be better able to afford decent child care - better child care means a less distracted employee and fewer days out of the workplace (this translates into better customer service), 2. workers will have more income to both save (for a house, car, college education) and spend.
In this tight labor market, we can't afford not to use every tool possible to attract and retain hourly employees!

Daily Q&A
How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?
Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
