The issue with the minimum wage is not what businesses can get for their willingness to compromise. It's really about what economic system we subscribe to. If we truly believe that elected officials have the business knowledge and interests of the people at heart, we may consider giving them the authority to dictate pay, benefits, prices, and more. If we believe that we are all better off by letting freedom of choice and a free market make those determinations, then no amount of "goodies" makes the compromise worthwhile.
Personally, having seen the success of the former system in most of Europe and Asia, I'll stick with freedom.
FDR makes a good point. But it's not that socialism is superior to free enterprise. It's that the greed of a few can have devastating effects on many. I would rather deal with the greed problem than give up the system that made ALL of us better off than the rest of the world.

Daily Q&A
How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?
Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
