If a company's CEO and its workforce have "competing interests," there's a weakness in the CEO's ability to lead.
Any CEO worth his or her salt should be able to get employees to buy into the company's vision and mission, and enable them to see their role in achienving both.
Otherwise, s/he's not a leader. And if s/he's not a leader, why are we paying him/her the big bucks?

We've been reading a lot about Change Management recently and one of the reoccurring themes in successful change management is a change agent (a top level executive) with the ability to lead the department/division/organization from its current state to the desired state.
