We often use external consultancies to help us and find the right candidates. But we find it very important that all candidates they meet get a good impression of our company. Does anyone know how we can check what image our company leaves to candidates by choosing to work with recruitment company X of Y ? Thanks for helping me on this. Kris Batsleer

Remember that it's in the headhunters' best interests to show off your company in the best light, as they want the candidates to be interested in the job so they'll be more likely to be selected for the job - and then the headhunters will get paid! However, if you really want to make sure the headhunters are presenting your company the way you want them to, give them a profile of your company and a list of related questions to ask the candidates - and have the headhunters return the answers to you.

Well, this sounds like a close cousin of a question job hunters frequently ask, namely, "How can I find out what my references are saying about me?"
One answer to that question is to hire a professional reference checking service. Yet another cheaper and informative one is to have a trusted friend pose as a reference.
So I wonder if a transposition of the second idea can be orchestrated in your situation. In other words, can it be arranged such that someone you know poses as a viable candidate, you present them somehow to the recruiting firm, your friend goes through the process, and then gives you a similar, "Hey! This is what they're really saying about you!"?

Sorry, messed up part of my previous suggestion . . . the common advice I meant to give was that of having a trusted friend pose as an employer checking references.

Daily Q&A
How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?
Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
