Does anyone have a policy on purchasing PDA's for their staff? If so, what criteria is used to determine who gets them.

Just like with any other piece of equipment, those who need 'em to do their jobs, get 'em.

So far our policy has been that the company will pay for PDAs for senior management only. We're a small company (12 people) so that may make a difference -- the idea of buying PDAs for everyone could be expensive. Then you get into what accessories are allowable, etc. We've actually left it up to our "operations committee" (a group of four consisting of the office manager, the primary admin person, and two professional staff); the committee has certain budget allotments and has decided so far that this is not the best use of company funds.

Our IT department lists/recommends those PDA's that are supported on our network. Perhaps you should check to see if they have any policy regarding connecting PDA's or sync'ing them to your e-mail on your computer. If it is your own personal PDA, be careful because some companies do not allow connecting personally owned equipment to business equipment.

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
