I know this maybe a little off subject...but I have been trying to find out where to find whether or not i can get paid for travel time. I know there is so many variables here. I need to find out. we

I know this maybe a little off subject...but I have been trying to find out where to find whether or not i can get paid for travel time. I know there is so many variables here. I need to find out. we spend anywhere between 1 hr to 1 1/2 hrs or more on the road without pay. now this is all overtime pay we could be missing out on. we work a 45 hr standard work week. so any time in the vehicle would overtime. if you could help I would greatly appreciate it....Thanks dave So if anyone can tell me if they get paid time or what they have encountered in the past I would greatly appreciate it. I live in WI ....and as far as exempt or non.....i am not sure...I work for an electrical contractor...I am an electrician. and we have to obviously travel to our job sites ...seen as though they don't come to us...so i guess i am just wondering if we can get travel time paid for.

Do you start at the main office first? If yes, at the very minimum you can claim mileage if you're in your own vehicle. If you use a company vehicle but drive your own to work (I've seen that a lot in WI) then my gut tells me they have to pay you. You must be hourly because if you were exempt you wouldn't raise the issue. Once you show up for work to start your day-your on the clock. Are you union? I really don't like unions (sorry) but this is the only legitimate (in my humble opinion) reason for them. Maybe a little hint to your employer would get things changed to avoid unionizing. |

Yes I take my truck to the shop. I claim mileage from to the shop. however it's only 22 miles round trip from my house to the office so mileage claim for me doesn't pay really. and Yes we have company vehicles and yes we have to go to the shop in order to start our day. So I guess can I get legal documentation as for the Mileage and Paid Travel time or atleast pointed into the right direction to get this stuff...or atleast maybe told where I can go to get any of this. I also work the standard 45 hours a week/salary. When I have to travel I normally key it in as a part of my regular work hours, there's an option on my timesheet that says travel time between stores. I also get gas/mileage if I travel in my own vehichle which is 100% of the time! My company acts as if they do not want to reimburse, but LEGALLY they have to or I will get a lawyer. The way I see it, THEY make a whole more money than me? |

According to the DOL website in the wage and hour law area, normal travel time to and from work is not considered time at work and should not be paid...if once you get to work, and they ask you to go to another worksite/office, then that time would be considered travel time...I choose a job close to my house on purpose, however, there are people that live in PA...should they get paid to travel to work because they choose a job far away? it was their choice. |
