I just reviewed the percentage of employees that are not inspired by thier jobs. The high percentage does not surprise me, however what are some of the problems that cause such a lack of inspiration?

My thoughts...

If higher percentage is not happy, I believe that we should initiate any option/s for us to identify/know and understand the real cause/s/reasons:
1. via a survey form template
2. if the organization is small - might be best to have a face to face encounter with the employee
3. if the organization is too big to handle then we can tap or partner with line/department managers to assist us in knowing the real cause of the problems

As soon as we would be able to identify the reasons, we then analyze and prioritize the gathered information accordingly. Level of addressing the problems should always consider the Company's Goals and direction... Pressing issues and concern that would hinder the achievement of the said goal/s. From there we would be able to identify strategies and programs that would help us to address little by little the problems.

We would not be able to satify everyone's needs as we still need to make recommendation and seek management's approval but it is important that we do give feedback to our employees on what had happened with their feedback. Transparecy and being open with them will build trust and confidence and somehow, in time, people may then realize that they are fortunate that their opinion/s/concern/s are valuable/important. Not easy but it's worth a try.

From our experience most staff members who feel uninspired do not feel that they are an integral part of the organization. This stems from a lack of leadership. People need to know where the org is going and how they will impact the future. They need to be given tools and skills that will allow them to have more control over their own future and the success of the entire team (ie Continuous Improvement Processes). The results will be a more engaged workforce, reduced turnover, and higher productivity/profitability.

I agree to begin with a survey tool that looks at cause and effect and then share the results. Tailor training to address issues that arise from the results. If you are interested in our Team Scorecard, please let me know.
