Does age matter in any company? I've a strong view that as long as the employee is capable, it does not really matter so much on the age...., I'll still want to employ them. Does younger workforce con

i think experience matters before age. some young people have a lot of experience, and some older people don't have that much!! or vice versa.

Yes, a mix of young, inexperienced and old, experienced can help make a creative and effective work force. An element of respect for both needs to be stressed for smoother sailing.

I think age is a problem with some employers. They don't want to pay for the experience. They would rather have no experience and pay less.

I have read your statements. I am glad I am not alone. I have over 30 yrs of experience and have been unemployed for a year. One job asked for a high school diploma and 1 yr expereince. They sent a me a "no thank you" email saying I wasn't qualified. This is getting ridiculous. But I keep applying in hopes that someone out there is not intimidated by my experience. Say a prayer for me.

The old employees have a lot of expirience, and very helpful to a company. You are right.

Susanchin I agree.. I am of the view that age does not matter. Although accumulated experience is equally invaluable as qualities of innovation and creativity, the decision to employ someone should largely depend on his ability to perform.

NO-the decision should NOT largely depend on ability to perform. Virtually all applicants can do the job. The key is going to be how well does the applicant fit the culture of the team and company........

^well yeah but the ability to do the job can still be measured by experience. if you get the young ones, you probably have training modules for newbies or some kind of big brother program with them from the old guys. I know there are lot of people out there who might think that they didn't get hired because of the age but it is mostly the skills set you offer. I myself don't have any problem hiring people of any age, what they bring to the table is what matters.

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
