Age bias

How come companies continue to promote the generation X'ers and the Baby Boomers returning to the workforce are left to stagnate. I thought the new key word was diversity in the workforce. What approch should be taken with my X'er superiors to help them understand that this baby boomer is interested in being a mover and shaker?
