You are hired as a permanent full time worker. You received a "not so good performance" evaluation that resulted in being reassigned. 8 months after that review you are called upon for a meeting with HR and Office Admin which you were explained to that your present assigmment is not working out and the only availability for the firm is to assigned as a floater working 1 or 2 of the shifts (11 - 7 or 12 - . Can a firm change the hire offer letter of a permanent hire to floater secy? How should this be handled?

Since you did not specify the length of time you were on the job prior to the "not so good" performance evaluaton, I am assuming that it was your first annual review. In the ensuing eight (8) months that you were reassigned I am again assuming that your performance failed to improve. Management has chosen to provide you with a "fill in"/ floater position in lieu of possible layoff.

Yes, Management can reassign employees, especially those like yourself (again an assumption) who are considered to be "Employees at will". Unless there is a written contract in force, there is no guarantee that you will remain in a particular position indefinitely.
