I supervise our administration staff which is comprised of 8 people. They all have different talents and responsibilities. We are constantly swamped and busy. My staff keeps wanting to have talk how to all sing Kumbaya but that's not the issue. I feel the issue is more of how can we become more efficient, juggle the workload and become more motivated at work. Has anyone come across a similar situation? What seems to work? Having a brianstorming session on ways to become more efficient? What are some fun ways you have tried to motivate this type of group? Is it no longer about "fun", and it's time to get strict with performance reviews until some sort of change happens? Thank you in advance.

This is such a unique situation, I just wanted to let everyone know I received good advice outside my firm from a consultant to do a review/interview. Where we have an outside consultant come in and watch what each person does, and then interview them separately to find out if there are any underlying issues. We determined that it could be the fact that they receive work from others that inappropriate delegate (aka "dump") and this is carried over and that attitude is transfered too. Just thought I'd share our solution in case anyone else runs into something similar.

Daily Q&A
How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?
Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
