We have the 3-days no show/no call Job abandonment policy now and closely looking at implementing 2-days no show/no call policy. We have lots of turnover and no show/no calls and in the warehous industry.I know there are no applicable Federal or State laws on job abandonment. What are the advantages/disadvantages of having 2-days no show/no call Vs 3 -days no show/no call policy? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

How many people do you actually have return after they nc/ns for two days? wouldn't it be easier to term after 2 days, because who wants them back for a 3rd chance at failure?

I would suggest you call the state unemnployment office. In Iowa, they recognize 3 days of nc/ns, not 2.

the only advantage I see is that you could sart the termination and recruiting process one day sooner, but is that worth what it would take to change a policy, worry about legal compliance and possibly generate poor employee relations? Even if you believe that your best employees will think of it as fair, they could perceive it as a "take-away."
When I was a supervisor, I called my no shows the first day to find out what happened to them.

I've always worked for companies with the usual 3-day rule. However, I usually issue a Final Written Warning for the first occurance of Nc/Ns if less than 3 days. That way any future occurance will be grounds for separating the ee. With a written policy in the handbook and a Final Warning in the file you probably won't lose any UEC hearings.

Daily Q&A
How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?
Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
