What is your practice when terminating an employee when they have personal items at their desk? I find it kind of humiliating and uncomforable to escort an employee back to their desk to have them pack it up in the presence of their coworkers. So if I tell a termed employee to make arrangements with me to get their stuff at another time, should I have their belongings packed up and waiting for them, this way they don't have to go back to the work area? Or will this cause a potential problem? |

I worked for a company that would pack up the desk of the employee they wanted to fire. But the problem was managment or HR would not approach this soon-to-be-terminated employee until after they got to their desk. Imagine what thoughts these employees had when they saw their empty desks. I don't think this is the way to handle it. |
