I work for a small to mid-sized demolition company in the construction industry. It is usual that our work load is quite slow at this time of year and morale suffers for both exempt and non-exempt employees. We have two teirs of managers: upper managers (4) and field managers (5).
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for inexpensive team-building exercises. I have consulted the usual books and find some of the activities are not suited to our company. (Anything too contrived or "corny" seems to be ineffective.) We already take time for safety/tool/equipment training and I try to annually have a meeting where we share personality types in an informal way to improve communication.
Any other ideas?
(I don't want to give out cupcakes or gold records, but any other suggestions welcome!)

Keep it work-focused. How about a retreat meeting where participants do some kind of SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunites, and threats) to discuss what has gone well, what could have gone better, what are some opportunities to explore for the future, and what they think are potential threats to future success.

It can be an opportunity for recognition and for strategic planning.

Cash bonuses with a letter explaining the low peak and hopes of market improvements.
If this is a public company shares of stock, that will no doubt rise as business improves.
