I would like a little assistance.

My main career goal is to become a consultant especially in the area of change management. I feel that to assist in that goal I will need to get a Masters degree. I would like to get my masters in Organizational Development (MSOD). I have looked online for programs but most are in other states. I would like to get an online degree from a reputable University but most require on campus classes only. I am hesitant about a degree from places like University of Phoenix because of the diploma mill stigma these places carry, whether these stigma's are justified or not.

Can anyone suggest reputable online programs for MSOD? Also, any other advice you may have for an aspiring consultant. I know that the information I’ve provided is limited on where I am in my career but I would like any suggestions on what knowledge, skills, and abilities I should acquire to get where I want.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I found this on the SIOP web site, it lists the schools that offer distance graduate degerees learning in Industrial/organizational psychology (not exactly the same as OD, but it may be a starting place).

If you already have a master's you could consider an executive education program at one of the "top" business schools - expensive but they might fit with you distance learning needs. If you don't already have a master's think about getting one at a local university. It doesn't have to be OD, it could be a related degree. Or wait a few years and see if a better program comes along or maybe perceptions about on-line degrees will change.

check out Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green Ohio. This is where OD really got started (no offense to Case Western)and their program is one of the best in the country - one of the top 5. You will find that this university is brought up in many of the OD books and its professors are quoted also. Primal Leadership by Goleman is one that pops into my mind right away.

You only have to be on campus a few weekends and it is affordable. Not to mention the best instructors anywhere!

Talk to Angie Stoller - she is great and can explain the program. You won't regret it! Check out the Nexus conference coming up in spring at the school - another don't miss program if you are in change management. All the biggies will be there. I can't say enough good about this program.

Good luck!
