Its been a few years since I sat for both PHR and SPHR but I hear that there are now a variety of products available online. The SHRM certification message board would be a good place to ask about whats available.
Traditionally most people use the SHRM Learning System, a certification prep course (put on by a SHRM chapter or a university) or one of the popular HR text books for self-study. I understand that there is a less expensive version of the Learning System available from another source online, although Ive never seen it. Having taken both tests and taught some modules of the prep course, I feel that most HR professionals with a few years experience will usually be able pass the PHR with some diligent self study, or any of the options available for preparation. Its mostly fact-oriented, or at least it was when I took it. If anything, it seemed to me that the current Learning System covers a little broader range of materials, but in less detail than the old test did. SPHR is another matter, knowing the PHR material was useful, but it required you to draw from more real worked experience. Just my $0.02 Good Luck |

Thank you Ida,
That was a good input. I have the SHRM learning system. I dont have the time to attend the classes offered in our state (1.5 hrs drive from my house/office ) So I would like to add some more hours of study by listening to audio materials, if there is one available. |

I did take a prep course at a local univ. but it just went over the Learning System. The biggest help to me was the CD that generated questions. This pointed me back to the modules I need to study more thoroughly. I understand that there are also several trial tests available now. |
