CEBS sounds like a great idea to "wiggle" into a job, hadn't heard about this designation before, thanks! i'm looking into it but wow thats a pretty expensive certification, paying for each exam and its course material.
Are any of you HR professionals in Atlanta?

I was once. I'll be blunt. It is a tough market for HR people where networking is everything. I would strongly encourage you to join the Atlanta SHRM Chapter. http://www.shrmatlanta.org

Yes I think i'm definitely joining SHRM. I've been looking for some reading material in order to brush up on some HR policies, and practices specific to the US, aswell as something on employment law. Does anyone have suggestions for books that can help in this regard? I recently came across one called "the employer's legal handbook" by Fred S. Steingold. don't know if its any good.
