I intended on being in the HR profession for 10 years. It has now been nearly 20, and I am burnt out of HR and ready for a career change.

Any advice on what careers are better suited to HR skill sets (Sales, PR, etc...)?

A Few Options:

1)Working for a smaller company where your HR experience is valued but your duties more varied.

2)Sales for a vendor that markets to HR departments.

3)Consulting if your burn-out is related to the repetition of dealing with the same issues over and over, consulting may give you more variety. (I did this at one point and found it interesting)

4)Change of scenery working in the same role for a different company (for a different boss) can re-energize.

5)Training- I agree with a previous post that T&D can be a great change if you like that function; but its of course one of the fist depts. to get cut back in times like these. Good option, but maybe not the best time to go there.

6)Compliance- go to work for the government

7)Career change- Do the reinvent yourself
thing.

Good luck

Thank you both for the insight. I really appreciate the guidance and advice.

After 12 years in HR, in different environments from banking to manufacturing, I'm just ready for a career change!

Thanks again...

I was faced with a similar situation over the summer. A nice 28 year career in HR, but was burnt out on it. I took a little time to reflect on what I'd enjoyed the most about my career and settled on some of the college relations work I'd done. I'm currently working for a local university in the MBA placement office and loving every minute of it.

So think about what you've enjoyed the most in HR and then try to figure out a way to focus on that.
