Heres my list:
5)Suspected intoxication (company did not do drug/alcohol testing except W/C injuries)
4)My manager is mean and unprofessional
3)Alleged discrimination/harassment with no witnesses or tangible evidence. (he said/she said)
2)Petty bickering about inconsequential issues
1)Dress code or hygiene issues

Good start, Ida!

How about:

[Manager]: I want to fire XXXXXXXXX

[Me]: Why?

[Manager]: XXXXXXXXX is not a team player

[Me]: What have you done so far to correct this?

[Manager: I told him I was coming down here to get him fired.

[Me]: (suppressing urge to say "oh s---) What documentation do you have?

[Manager]: Haven't done any.

The other ER issues are rolling out a new health care benefits plan and, of course, layoff.

Oh yes! My favorite went something like this:

V-P: I want that @#$%* out of here right now.

HR (pulling emp. file) Hmmm, no counseling statements and a glowing performance review done just two months ago. Here, let me paint a bullseye on your back so the attorneys will have something to shoot at. Now, how many million are you willing to part with to get rid of this @#$%* ?

not me personally, but there was a post on this board awhile back about someone who "pottied up" the employee rest room - that had to be one of the worst!

Union organizing campaigns (2) and the aftermath of same. During the campaign, some workers spread filth all over the men's room, messed with cars in the parking lot and even made telephone threats to both management and coworkers. At the annual holiday party (nice hotel)silverware and other items were stolen, hotel rooms vandalized including placing the potted plants from the hallway in the toilets in the rooms. Not hard to find the culprits since they were booked into those rooms. Company had to pay for the damages, of course.

Even worse than the campaign was trying to heal the wounds afterwards. The company prevailed but it took years to put it behind us.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
