Hi,
I am at a great company currently and they are about to do some major changes & restructuring. Even though I am fairly new to the company, I am not too worried because I am the only person besides my manager ( I have a week senoirity on him, lol)who knows and works with the labor union here. Although, I like my job but I don't see myself doing this function for the next 5 years. Anyway, I really want to be an arbitrator but not sure if law school is absolutely needed. I am getting certifications in labor union leadership and SHRM of course (by the way, I am not new to labor unions). I just want to make sure I am on the right path here.
Thoughts???

Interesting, I went to school with a man who started an arbitration firm and partnered with attorneys. He decided to pursue an MBA with an emphasis on employee relations, but mainly because he felt the need for some kind of professional certification, he was already very successful.

Over the years I have worked with several arbitrators who did not have JD's. Consequently I can surmise that this is neither a requirement nor a hindrance to entering the arena.
Good luck as it sounds like an area you have a passion for.

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
