Moving from Generalist to Recruiter

As I am completing the M.S. in HR management and switching from a career primarily customer service/call center function, I have seriously considered recruiting as my entry point into the human resources world. For two reasons: (1) at this time it maybe easier as an entry point and (2) the networking/contacts are a bonus to sourcing potential applicants. Are these realistic expectations?

In this economy, enter any way you can. Given the lacklustre job creation right now, recruiting might not be the best avenue.

Were I doing it over again, I think I might go for compensation right now.
