I am researching the valuation that HR departments have getting candidates to apply directly through their internal recruiting systems instead of through other Job Boards. Would the savings be significant if more candidates found and applied for jobs directly through the company site. Thanks!

An additional question is... Would individual companies have any problems with me providing searchable links to the jobs on their own websites? Would they be willing to pay for this service which would include all of the jobs they have listed by either a monthly fee or pay-by-click basis?

Thanks!

While posting on your own corporate website is cheaper than a job board, unless you have a lot of traffic to the site its probably not going to be as effective for filling jobs quickly. The careers page on our website simply links to a jobs summary page on Monster.

I doubt that most companies would object to anyone linking to their jobs page, but whether they are willing to pay for such a service would depend on the perceived value and track record of that service.

Another consideration is where the information about your candidates will reside.

Organizations with Applicant Tracking Systems (to manage job requisitions and candidates) typically have their jobs posted on both their corporate career website as well as job boards.

When a candidate applies to Job 123 from the corporate career website, they are "attached" to Job 123.

When a candidate applies from a job board, the "apply now" button pushes that candidate back to the organization/client - so all of the information about them is in YOUR Applicant Tracking System and not the job board. They would also be "attached" to Job 123.

This facilitates the candidate management part of recruiting - because all of the candidates who have applied to Job 123 are in one place.

Hope that helps.

Some things to consider...

Companies can drive job seeker traffic directly to the career section of their Web site a number of ways. One main method is to invest in SEO (Search Engine Marketing), which can ensure that the company's jobs appear on the first page(s) of Google, MSN, Yahoo, or AOL search results. SEO can be expensive, but if done right, it can yield a higher return on investment than job boards, although companys are still likely to get less candidates than they would through a major job board (CareerBuilder, Monster, etc).

Another relatively new, but popular method is to feed the companys job postings to job aggregator sites, such as, Indeed, Oodle, or SimplyHired. These sites are growing in popularity amongst job seekers and its virtually free to feed your jobs to them. Not sure if you knew about the job aggregator sites, but it sounds like this is what you might have been envisioning.

Using job boards to direct job seekers back to a companys' website is very effective. But why pay for listing on a job board when all state run job boards are free to both employers and job seekers? All positions that are posted in state job boards automatically get posted in www.jobcentral.com, the national job board. Here is a link to find each state's job board: www.servicelocator.org
Look in the upper right hand corner to find a drop down menue for each state's job board.

I have been using Craig's List since February 2008 to advertise and I have completely quit using any employement agency or advertiser that cost the company financially. I have filled 13 positions and have had little to NO turnover on the employees we have hired. In the advertisement on Craig's List, I direct the applicant to visit our website and fill out an application. It has worked beautifully.

Employers better simplify their on line application process if they want to drop job boards. The number one complaint of candidates applying on line is no response; thenumber two complaint is how time consuming and downright difficult it is to apply. After 10 minutes of jumping hoops on the on line application they lose interest.

I agree that jumping through hoops and not receiving a response cause more doubt. Job seekers do find these announcements on free job boards. To apply for the same job there again is frustrating because valuable time is expended in this loop.

Then don't set your job board listings to take applications. When you post a job on a board you should give the information about the position and then give your website (or address, phone number, whatever) as a contact to apply.
