Anxiety in Austin—No Bonuses at Dell
The computer maker is trying to shake its ‘bureaucracy.’
Employees of
computer maker Dell Inc. will have to forgo bonuses
but could be in line to receive “above-market pay raises” in 2007, according to
a report in the Austin
American-Statesman. CEO Michael Dell, who resumed control of the company
recently, told employees the news in an e-mail, excerpts of which were published
by the newspaper. The report about the e-mail has since appeared in other
publications. Dell also plans to pare its top management from 20 to 12,
according to the report, as it tries to eliminate bureaucracy. Austin,
Texas-based Dell has been hit by a spate of bad news recently, including a
recall of computer batteries and an ongoing federal probe into its accounting
practices.
