Executives
Cash In:
Those who want the federal government to regulate executive pay were no doubt
fortified by this news: The compensation of top execs increased an average of
nearly 29 percent during 2006. That’s according to the Economic Research
Institute and CareerJournal.com. Most of the pay came in the form of lump-sum
cash bonuses, which reportedly increased in size by an average of 42 percent.
Executives’ base pay increased about 1.7 percent. Already under
consideration by lawmakers are such options as caps on deferred compensation and
requiring shareholders to approve an executive’s year-end bonus.
