Would Exercise at Work Help Smokers Kick the Habit?
Researchers in the U.K. advocate that smokers exercise briskly for as little as five minutes.
Health & Wellness: If recent research is to be believed, human resources
organizations could play a greater role in helping smoking-addicted workers get
clean. Experts at the University of Exeter in England found that exercise
activity “lasting as little as five minutes” is sufficient to help reduce a
person’s cigarette cravings. Additionally, brisk walks and other exercises
alleviate stress and anxiety while improving a person’s concentration. Previous
research at the University of Toronto has suggested that workplace smoking bans
may help employees kick the habit. —Garry
