Companies Lackadaisical About Leadership

Survey finds many organizations are worried about the future, but only about one-third are taking action.

Leadership Lacking: The challenge of grooming new leaders is starting to keep HR executives awake at night.  More than 82 percent of organizations cite succession planning—or more accurately, their lack of it—as a grave concern for competing in the future. That’s according to an April 12 survey released by human capital management consulting firm Knowledge Infusion and the International Association for Human Resources Information Management. As a result, many firms are looking not only at existing senior managers but paying greater attention to their ranks of middle managers and other key talent. However, thus far only about 34 percent are implementing succession planning strategies. Among other findings, the survey of 3,000 people in the HR profession also revealed that 49 percent of companies “cited little to no integration between systems and talent management processes,” while 47 percent “reported fair to poor organizational alignment of the workforce to business goals.”
