Happy Hairdressers in U.K. Laud Training

Job satisfaction soars when companies make training a priority, according to City & Guilds’ ‘Happiness Index.’

Job Happiness: Feel free to insert your own joke here. According to a survey by City & Guilds, a vocational training and education group, hairdressers are the happiest group of workers in the United Kingdom. At the bottom of the pile: human resources managers, with only 2 percent satisfied with the training opportunities afforded by their jobs. Known as the “Happiness Index,” the survey is based on responses from 1,000 employees across 200 companies. According to the latest research, published in March, 57 percent of hairdressers say they look forward to returning to work following a day off, with nearly 50 percent of them rating “training in their workplace as 10 out of 10.” Other happy groups of workers include beauty therapists, child care workers, medical doctors (including dentists) and plumbers. City & Guilds says its research indicates a “clear link between workplace happiness and training” opportunities being made available to employees.
