Hiring Quandary: Restaurants Looking for Big Tips


The food service industry is facing stiff challenges in luring and retaining hourly workers and managers.

Good Servers Wanted: The restaurant industry, specifically casual dining, is no stranger to high turnover and the resulting recruiting/retention challenges it brings. But the situation may be headed toward crisis mode, according to the People Report, a Dallas-based trade group that tracks workforce trends in the food services sector. In its latest outlook, People Report notes that 85,000 new restaurant jobs have been added to the U.S. economy so far in 2007. However, a mere 3 percent of companies say recruiting difficulties have eased for finding hourly employees, with 100 percent indicating that finding qualified managers is tougher than ever.
