It Pays to Advertise: It appears that no industry is immune to the problem of succession management. The Creative Group has released a series of studies that provide a window into the anxiety-ridden minds of advertising and marketing executives. Nearly 40 percent are uneasy about who will succeed them once they retire. Only 22 percent express strong confidence that they can pass the baton to qualified successors. In another survey, 30 percent say motivating employees is the biggest management challenge, with recruiting (28 percent) a close second. Training staff is a worry for 14 percent and retention occupies the minds of 11 percent of ad firm execs.
