Study: Promotion More Stressful Than Divorce
Leaders nevertheless generally feel positive about the advancement opportunities.
Stress and Success: Making the transition into leadership by far is the most
stressful life event, according to Bridgeville, Pennsylvania-based Development
Dimensions International. The global HR consulting firm near Pittsburgh recently
asked leaders to rank a list of life’s most difficult challenges, and the
increased responsibilities that come with being a leader topped the list, ahead
of such upheavals as divorce, bereavement and moving. The findings come from
interviews with about 800 U.S. and foreign business leaders of large
corporations. Even so, this isn’t making people gun-shy. Most leaders polled say
their promotions are worth the added pressure. —Garry Kranz
