Blogging With a Vendetta
More than one-third make comments that could damage their employers’ reputations or lead to dismissal.
Bloggers Beware: Employees that post personal blogs take note: Your CEO may be
reading your remarks. About 39 percent of bloggers say they have posted comments
that could be construed as harmful to their companies’ reputation, including the
compromising of sensitive and proprietary data. That’s according to a survey by
Croner Select, an HR firm in the U.K., which notes such writings could cost
thoughtless employees their jobs. Corporate policies governing personal blogs
could be on the horizon as employers “consider the impact of blogging on their
organization and to take appropriate steps to minimize potential risks.” Croner
likens the rise of personal blog use to the advent of e-mail as a business
communication tool in the 1990s.
