Constant Craving: People advancing into positions of higher responsibility crave
input from coaches and mentors, but few apparently are getting what they need.
According to new research by the Chartered Institute for Professional
Development and Development Dimensions International, nearly 80 percent of
senior leaders believe formal training plays a critical role in helping people
adjust to the increased responsibilities associated with promotions. Even so,
half of the respondents say their organizations are not equipped to address
training needs from within. While 43 percent of leaders say mentors, coaches
or other advisors play the most influential role in aiding their transition, only
one in three say their organizations are doing a good job of providing this
support.
