Seven of 10 Execs Play Games at Work
Video games are pervasive in the workplace.
By Garry Kranz
Game Faces: Ever wonder what white-collar professionals are doing in their
offices these days? It’s possible that they are engaged in a session of Grand
Theft Auto or some other video adventure game. About 25 percent of white-collar
workers admit to playing video games at some point during their workday, with 14
percent doing so during business meetings or conference calls, according to
PopCap Games of Seattle, a provider of online computer games. Eleven percent of
people start the workday with casual games, while 19 percent use games to unwind
at the end of the day. The study compiled responses of more than 2,800 people
defined as white-collar workers. About 52 percent confine their playing to break
time. The fixation isn’t restricted to middle managers either. Seventy percent
of senior executives spend time playing video games at work to relieve stress,
compared with 49 percent for other white-collar workers.
