Talent-Hungry Casinos Rolling the Dice
To improve its recruiting odds, MGM Grand’s new Foxwoods Resort Casino is launching a job Web site, planning job fairs and reaching out to Native American tribes.

Hiring Gamble: As some industries gear up for layoffs, others are ramping up to
hire new workers. That includes Foxwoods Resort Casino, part of MGM Grand. The
company will create more than 2,000 jobs when its new $700 million casino opens
in May, according to WFSB TV in Hartford, Connecticut. Foxwoods, which is
operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, is trying to fill about 1,700
frontline positions and about 350 supervisory jobs for the new facility.
According to the WFSB’s report, diversity is an “important element” during the
recruitment exercises, which are expected to include regional job fairs in
Hartford; New Haven, Connecticut; and Providence, Rhode Island. The company is
reaching out to “Native Americans in 90 tribes nationwide” who have registered
to receive electronic job postings. In addition to Foxwoods, the Mohegan Sun
casino is also expanding also—a project expected to generate up to 1,500 new
“permanent jobs” upon its completion in 2010, according to WFSB.
