Safety First: Nonprofits can take advantage of federal largesse to equip
organizations with critical knowledge, training and education on health and
safety. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which is part of the
U.S. Department of Labor, is making nearly $7 million in grants available to
community and faith-based organizations. The 12-month performance-based grants
would focus on training in 18 topics, including combustible dust; falls from
scaffolds, ladders and roofs in construction; and food-processing health
hazards. Organizations have until May 23 to apply. Government nonprofits are not
eligible.
