Intangible Reward: With each day seeming to bring a fresh round of major job
layoffs, this finding may need to be re-evaluated in context. Yet according to
Monster Worldwide, workers in North America and Europe say they’d be willing to
forgo pay increases in favor of landing their dream job.
In the U.S., 82 percent of workers would accept a pay cut if it meant enjoying a
more rewarding career, slightly higher than the 76 percent of employees
worldwide who express a similar sentiment. But that’s not the highest
percentage, which goes to Ireland with 84 percent of employees amenable to
trading money for more fulfilling jobs. Along with their U.S. counterparts, 82
percent of employees in Switzerland and Italy place a higher value on workplace
satisfaction than compensation.
