Womanpower: Edward Jones & Co., a brokerage based in St. Louis, is
aggressively recruiting women eager to pursue careers in financial services. The
11,000-employee company told the St. LouisBusiness Journal that it wants women
to make up one-quarter of its financial advisors by 2012, up from the current 18
percent. The company has created the Women's Initiative for New Growth
Strategies, a program that “uses seminars and job fairs to attract women who
might have an interest in working for the company,” including recent college
graduates and those looking to change careers. The program “touts flexible
hours, running a business with corporate backing and face-to-face interaction
with clients” as key attractions for career-minded women.
