Older Is Better: Older workers take better physical care of themselves than
cohorts half their age, a new survey shows. Chicago-based ComPsych Corp., which
designs employee assistance programs, finds that 52 percent of workers in their
60s have healthy diets. By contrast, less than 18 percent of workers in their
30s have smart eating habits. Physical activity also helps: 52 percent of older
employees work out more than four days a week, compared with roughly 20 percent
of their younger colleagues. Diet and exercise just might influence people’s
outlook on life: Nearly 83 percent of 60ish workers tend to see situations in a
positive light, compared with 46 percent of 30-somethings. Younger people also
experience stress levels in higher proportion than those nearing retirement (65
percent versus 30 percent, respectively).
