Healthy Work: Global health company Cigna Corp. says it has received an award
for its employee health and wellness programs. Known as the Psychologically
Healthy Workplace Award, it is an annual honor conferred on organizations by the
Association of Virgin Islands Psychologists, in conjunction with the American
Psychological Association. The aim is to recognize organizations that excel at
providing “emotionally healthy practices in the workplace” by helping employees
strike a balance between work and personal life.
“It’s very gratifying to know that our efforts to help employers create
healthy work environments through programs that improve people’s physical and
emotional well-being are having such a positive impact,” Keith Dixon, president
of Cigna’s health solutions organization, said in a statement.
In a related announcement, Bloomfield, Connecticut-based Cigna announced it
is the latest major company to ban employee smoking on its premises. Beginning
April 1, 2009, all of Cigna’s 179 properties will become tobacco-free
environments.
