No Gateway Here: Employers in St. Louis are dealing with the struggling
economy by deciding against filling vacancies, according to a newspaper. The St.
Louis Business Journal reports in its November 25 edition that 41 percent of
companies plan to delay filling open positions in 2009. About 18 percent plan to
decrease their budgeted salary increases, while 33 percent are unsure how they
will respond, the newspaper says, citing survey results from St. Louis-based
AAIM Management Association. Roughly one-quarter of the companies anticipate
reducing their workforce.
There is a glimmer of good news: About 40 percent plan to keep their 2009
salary budgets intact, while nearly as many (38.5 percent) aren’t planning any
particular action in response to declining economic conditions.
