Get Technical: Skilled information technology professionals should have
little trouble finding jobs in 2009, despite job losses in other sectors. Robert
Half Technology, a consulting firm, says 12 percent of chief information
officers plan to expand their workforces during the first quarter of 2009. Four
percent say they expect to cut staff. Robert Half says the results are based on
telephone interviews with more than 1,400 CIOs from U.S. companies with at least
100 employees. Fueling the demand are concerns about information-systems
security and systems upgrades. Hiring is expected to be most brisk at firms with
1,000 or more employees (14 percent versus 3 percent projecting staff
cutbacks).
