1 ***** How Teaching Employees to Be Trainers Pays Off *****
http://email.workforce.com/cgi-bin2/flo?y=eHLm0DtLcw0CKs0BnY30AF
Using your subject-matter experts can be a cost-effective way to
teach the rest of the organization, provided you're aware of the
challenges they'll face in becoming trainers.
2 ***** News Poll: Ban Steroids from Baseball? *****
http://email.workforce.com/cgi-bin2/flo?y=eHLm0DtLcw0CKs0BnY40AG
The baseball world is under fire after one former player said
that about 50 percent of the players are on steroids, and another
player estimated that 85 percent use steroids. Should baseball
try to negotiate an agreement with the player's union to ban the
drugs?
3 ***** Forum Posts: Use of Competencies in Selection *****

Posted in the Recruiting Forum:
"I am wondering if anyone has determined the behavioral
competencies for a specific position and developed selection
tools -- such as structured interviews -- to measure them. If you
have, what tools do you use to measure the competencies and have
you had any success?"
4 ***** Evaluate the Results of Flextime *****
http://email.workforce.com/cgi-bin2/flo?y=eHLm0DtLcw0CKs0BnY60AI
A short form employees can fill out to propose a flextime
arrangement and evaluate the success of it.

You were 20 when you vowed never to alter your appearance. Now
you're 42. Welcome to Botox.
6 ***** Smarter Screening Takes Technology and HR Savvy *****

There are fewer jobs now, but no fewer applicants. Here's how
companies are staying ahead of the resume flood.
7 ***** Employee Values; Background Checks; Respect in UK *****
-- Employee Values: There's a mismatch when it comes to the views
of managers and non-managers about values. While 82 percent of
senior managers say that they "see our company values lived by
senior managers," only 63 percent of non-managers agree. Also,
while more than two-thirds of senior managers feel that their
company recognizes and values employee loyalty, only 53 percent
of managers think that's true. Manpower hired a research firm to
do the study, which measured 2,627 HR managers in France,
Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, the United
Kingdom, and the United States, as well as 1,454 employees in the
United States and the UK.
-- Background Checks: 53 percent of employees want their employers
to do more detailed background checks on new applicants.
Also, 92 percent favor determining if an applicant has falsified
his or her resume; 91 percent favor checking convictions and
sex offenses; and 83 percent favor checking misconduct,
such as malpractice. The study was done by the research firm
Harris for Privacy and American Business, and was paid for by
ChoicePoint, a background-check company.
-- Respect in the UK: An informal BBC poll of 12,000 Brits shows
that the least respected professions are member of parliament,
estate agent (British for real-estate broker), government
minister, lawyer, journalist, footballer, advertising executive,
car dealer, company director, and accountant.
The most respected are doctor, nurse, teacher, fireman,
paramedic, army/navy/Royal Air Force, scientist, ambulance
driver, police officer, and care assistant.
