As a recent Workforce Management article put it, “in the last few years, wage-and-hour class-action lawsuits have moved to the forefront of employment litigation.” Multimillion-dollar judgments and settlements are almost commonplace.
The change of administration in Washington has also upped the ante in wage-and-hour matters. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis in November 2009 announced that her department had hired an additional 250 wage-and-hour investigators, a staff increase of more than one-third, “to ensure that we promptly respond to complaints and can undertake more targeted enforcement.”
To keep pace with decisions and administrative actions in wage-and-hour law, several law firms have launched blogs on the topic, with attorneys writing about the latest cases and trends. The most recent entrant is a blog from the Wage & Hour Defense Institute, which describes itself as “a national legal network and educational platform to help employers contend with pressing areas in wage-and-hour law.” Here are links to that blog, and several others.

To track other firms’ wage-and-hour blogs as they emerge, try LexMonitor. The site describes itself as a “free daily review of law blogs and journals highlighting prominent legal discussion and the lawyers and other professionals participating in this conversation.” It has sections highlighting labor and employment blogs in general, and wage-and-hour blogs specifically.
