Workers Take Aim at Walmart With Strikes

Walmart Stores Inc. workers are beginning strike actions in a lead-up to Black Friday (the shopping day after Thanksgiving) citing company attempts to squelch efforts by workers speaking out for better jobs.

Walmart Stores Inc. workers are beginning strike actions in a lead-up to Black Friday (the shopping day after Thanksgiving) citing company attempts to squelch efforts by workers speaking out for better jobs, according to a group called OUR Walmart. And Los Angeles area radio station KPCC-FM reported that a strike is taking place at warehouses in Southern California that supply Walmart stores and use contingent workers.

Walmart and staffing firms that supply its warehouses have experienced disputes with workers. Recently, a group of 20 Chicago-area workers filed a wage-and-hour lawsuit against the retailer and two staffing firms.
