Data Bank Focus: A Shrinking Pool of Job Candidates

A number of statistics are pointing toward future recruitment challenges. First, the Federal Reserve Board projects that unemployment rates will continue to fall through 2015 and beyond. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show a clear downward trend in the number of unemployed persons per job opening.

The number is not as low as the pre-recession figure of two, but it is well below the peak of seven in 2010. A third set of statistics shows job openings and hires on the upswing as the rate of employees quitting their jobs is rising in smaller increments. Each tells a tale of a shrinking base of resources.
