The U.S. Department of Labor has unveiled its long-awaited update to the rules governing who is and isn't exempt from overtime.
Some retailers and other companies could face higher labor costs, as more entry-level employees will be eligible for overtime. Companies with more professional employees may--at least from a legal standpoint--be able to reclassify some of them as exempt from overtime beginning in 2005.
