Last month's issue of Workforce Management reported that more employees gained access to retirement benefits from 2008 to 2011, but fewer employees participated in these programs. For health care benefits, the trend is somewhat different. Fewer workers have access to health care benefits, and fewer employees take advantage of them. Overall, access and participation are highest among management, business, financial and professional workers; full-time workers; union members; and highly compensated workers.
